Parts Needed To Flat Tow A 2019 Ford F-150 Platinum 4WD

Question:

I have recently acquired a 2008 Phaeton RV and am interested in setting up my 2019 F150 Platinum 4wd to flat tow behind it. I would like your suggestions to accomplish this. The motorhome came with a BlueOx BX7445 10,000 lb tow bar. It also came with connections for towing including safety cables, brake air hose connection, plug in electrical cable and break away cable. I can provide photos if desired. If I could get your suggestions on base plate, braking system, and vehicle wiring. Thanks.

I can certainly point you in the right direction. For a base plate for your 2019 Ford F-150 Platinum 4WD I recommend the Blue ox base plate # BO74FR. This will be compatible with your Blue Ox Aventa BX7445 tow bar.

For your brake light wiring I recommend using a Roadmaster diode kit. Assuming the electrical cable you have is a standard 7 way to 6 pin cable, you will need the wiring kit # RM-152, and a 6 pin socket # RM-910030-7 to complete your wiring. You will also want to install a charge line # RM-156-25 to provide a charge to the trucks battery while towing.

Since the motorhome already has an air hose connection, it sounds like it as already prepped with Air force one braking system. In this case you will just need a second vehicle kit # SM99209 and air jumper # SM99666 to complete the Air force One Supplemental barking system. This will come with a new brakeaway switch and cable, and we do recommend installing a new brakeaway instead or re-using the old one. You will also need to install a relay # RM-88400 to prevent the towed vehicle's brake signal from overriding the turn signal from the RV when applying the brakes during a turn.

That will cover the main components of your setup. You may need to use a drop hitch, so that your tow bar will be level when towing. The base plate height will be right around 17-1/2" when installed. If the hitch on your motorhome is not within 3 inches of the base plate height, a drop hitch like the # BLU28XR will be needed.

As a final note, we do recommend reviewing the towing section of your owners manual prior to installation. They will list any important flat towing information and it is something we always want to check beforehand.

You will find a list of these parts below, along with links to a few relevant install videos.
