Can Heat Cause Yellowing of Roof Vent Garnish and Screen Frame

Question:

I installed these Ceiling Garnishes and screen housings in March of this year. After just a few months in storage in Florida they have yellowed considerably see photo. I have a protective UV cover over the trailer and keep the hatches closed. Could this yellowing be the result of heat only not UV? I would like to replace. Alternatively I might try and paint these with Krylon while they are out, so I look forward to your response.

Helpful Expert Reply:

Yes, it is possible for yellowing of plastic to occur in high heat. Florida tends to do a great job of that in the summer. Since it doesn't look like anything is cracked I would say go ahead and throw some Krylon Fusion on there. When they start to wear out more or if they start to crack you can go ahead and swap them out. Based on what you got last time you will need the following when it comes time to replace them:

-Replacement Screen Frame with Screen, Rocker Switch, and Wire for Ventline Roof Vents # BVC0573-41R

-Replacement Screen Frame with Screen for Ventline Ventadome Trailer Roof Vents # BVC0573-41

-Ceiling Garnish for Ventline Roof Vent # VA0445-37
