Why Would 7-Way of 2013 Nissan Frontier Lock Up Trailer Brakes
Question:
I have a 2013 nissan frontier crew cab truck. Came with tow package, but no brake controller.I checked, it has the 2 plug, 7 prong trailer plug, brand new last year and the 2 relays, blue and orange. Went to tow a trailer, plugged in trailer, and trailer brakes immediately were engaged. What am I missing, just the brake controller? Any help would be appreciated.

Somehow the 12 volt accessory circuit which is the 1:00 pin is shorting out to the brake output circuit which is normally in the 5:00 position as you face the open 7-way on your truck. This could be from bare wires touching each other or could be from the wires being pinned to the wrong pins of the connector.
To control the trailer brakes you would need to have a brake controller installed like the Prodigy P2 part # 90885 which for your 2013 Nissan Frontier would require the install harness part # 3050-P.
