Troubleshooting 7-Way to Semi 7-Way Adapter Stoplights Not Working

Question:

I bought the 7 pin adapter to go from 7 pin round on my semi to the 7 pin flat . Everything works except the brake lights. I havent hooked up a brake controller yet . Is that needed to make the brake lights work . Thanks for any help .

The problem you most likely are experiencing is due to fact that semi trucks have the turn signals and stoplight circuit on separate circuits/wires. Standard trailer wiring has the stoplight and turn signal circuits on the same wire.

So in your situation you would need to wire in the Hopkins Tail Light Converter part # HM48847 on just the stoplight and turn signal circuits and you'll be good.

A brake controller would not affect the stoplight circuit at all.
