Removing Dodge Factory Brake Controller on 2012 Ram 2500 to Install a P3

Question:

I have a 2012 Ram 2500. The factory brake controller does not work properly and i want to remove it completely so no fault codes will display on vehicle dash. I am planning to purchase Tekonsha P-3 and install it in the bezel at factory controller position My dealership said they can not remove it and gave me a lot of BS. Is it something they can do and remove the factory controller without having any fault codes showing on my dash? Thanks for your help

It is definitely possible to bypass the factory brake controller on your 2012 Dodge Ram 2500. To install the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller part # 90195 that you referenced you will need to use the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter part # 3021-P. This will plug into the harness under your vehicle's dash.

As far as the factory controller is concerned you will have to disconnect the ITBM, this will turn on a warning lamp, on the instrument cluster. In order to disconnect the ITBM and not get the warning lamp, your local Dodge dealer will have to reconfigure the TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module), of the truck. Once the TIPM has been reconfigured, and the ITBM has been unplugged, you can use a vehicle specific brake control harness such as the Tekonsha # 3021-P to install the aftermarket brake control.

To disconnect the ITBM, you will need to contact Business Center to remove the sales code (XHC). The TIPM will need to be reconfigured. Once the sales code has been disabled you can disconnect the ITBM electrical connector, under the dash, without getting the warning lamp.
