Troubleshooting A Self-Adjusting Brake Assembly That Locks Up With The Slightest Touch
Question:
We replaced both sides of the axel with new self-adjusting brake assemblies. The left wheel is still locking down with the slightest touch on the brake pedal. There must be something wrong in the wiring?

If the left side had a wiring issue then the right side would most likely be acting up too, most likely your left assembly is over-adjusted. If you jack up the trailer and try to spin the wheel you should hear the brake pads drag on the hub and it should rotate about 2 or 3 times pretty easily. If not, then it's most likely over-adjusted.
If you turned the adjuster sprocket instead of bedding the brakes by getting up to speed and activating the brakes then you could have easily overtightened it and need to adjust it back. It isn't normal but it could've also been overtightened during the manufacturing process as well. Unfortunately with self-adjusting brake assemblies you'll have to remove the wheel and hub to get enough access to turn it back, so it's going to be a bit more work.
I've attached a picture below of the adjuster sprocket on the # AKEBRK-35-SA below so you can see what I'm talking about.
