Why Is There A Clicking Noise Coming From My Electric Drum Brake Assemblies

Question:

I have a 25’ travel trailer, 7,000 lbs. I just put all new brakes on it and took it out for a test drive. As I walked around it checking hub temperatures, I heard a clicking sound coming from one wheel. Any idea what to look for?

If you're hearing clicking it's most likely just the brake controller testing for connection to the brake magnet in the assemblies # 23-26-27 by sending a pulse and energizing the magnets, causing them to cling to the hub for a second. It's normal for certain brake controllers and wouldn't be a cause for worry.

If you notice the brakes starting to drag (temperature will also shoot up) then that would indicate the brake controller is sending a few volts back to the brakes causing them to try to activate, but at a low voltage can't fully activate. This is when you'd want to check for any shorts in the wiring, ensure you have a good ground, and take a look at the brake controller and replace it if necessary.
