Is There an Adapter to Use a 1-1/4" Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack in a 2" Hitch

Question:

Hi, I have a 1.25 inch Thule T2 pro XTR that I bought at the end of last season. Im changing my car and it will have a 2 inch hitch. Do you have a recommandation for an adapter that would let me fit my 1.25 inch Thule T2 Pro XTR on my new car that has a 2 inch hitch? Thank you

I don't have a great answer for you because of the shank style the Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack # TH23JV uses. The # TH23JV rack uses an AutoAttach system that does not allow for some adapters to work well.

You would need to go with a hitch reducer like the Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter # e58YR, which reduces the hitch size rather than expanding the shank size on the bike rack.

This will allow you to use your Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack # TH23JV but it will reduce the weight capacity of your hitch by 50%. Because you are stepping up to a 2" hitch, you should still be able to use the full capacity of your bike rack. But it is important to note that it could void any warranty claims on your bike rack, since it is not how the rack was designed to be used.

I would also recommend adding the etrailer Anti-Rattle Hitch Stabilizer # e99007 to help take the play out of the adapter. Because the Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack # TH23JV is secured by the tightening cam system, you will want the adapter to be as stable as possible.

There is also a 2" version of the T2 Pro XTR

- Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack for 2 Bikes # TH83JV

Or there are some other rack options that fit a 1-1/4" and 2" hitch.

- Thule Helium Platform XT Bike Rack # TH53GC
