Expert Reply:

Your 2000 Ford F-150 XLT Super Cab with manual transmission and 4.6L engine is capable of towing between 1,900 and 3,200lbs depending on your rear end gear ratio. These weight ratings are for conventional trailer towing. Ford does not provide any capacities for gooseneck or 5th wheel towing.

2-Wheel Drive
3.08 Gear Ratio 1,900lbs
3.31 Gear Ratio 2,600lbs
3.55 Gear Ratio 3,200lbs

4-Wheel Drive
3.31 Gear Ratio 2,300lbs
3.55 Gear Ratio 2,900lbs

If you decide you are going to be okay towing your horse trailer because you are within Ford's towing weight specification you will need a B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # BWGNRK1197 along with the correct wiring and brake controller. If you can tell me if your F-150 doesn't have any wiring or what wiring it may have I can help you figure out what all parts you will need.
