Will Longer Ball Mount Prevent Trailer from Coming Into Contact with Truck

Question:

I have a 2022 GMC 2500 HD diesel. It has a 2.5 inch reciever. I want to use a longer shank as the front of my trailer will make contact with the truck on sharp turns going forward. My trailer is 8500 lbs empty and has a tounge weight of 1100-1200 lbs. How long of a shank would be exceptable?

It's not common for a bumper pull trailer to make contact with the tow vehicle during sharp turns, this is very unusual so I can't really say how long of a shank you would need to prevent this. It's all specific to your application which seems to be a bit out of the ordinary. That said, the B&W Tow & Stow 3-Ball Mount part # BWTS20048B for example is a great all around option for towing since it has multiple hitch balls so you can tow pretty much any trailer, a stowaway design for easy storage, multiple height settings for greater compatibility, and it fits directly inside a 2-1/2" receiver so there's no slope. It also provides an extension over most other ball mounts of 9-1/2" when measuring from the center of the hitch ball hole to the center of the hitch pin hole.

I have attached below a full list of ball mounts with longer shanks as well.
