How To Choose Between 5" and 7" Drop B&W Tow & Stow 2-Ball Mount for 2.5" Hitches

Question:

I need help deciding on 5 inch or 7 inch . 2018 Ram cummins with level kit no lift. 275 /70/18 tires. I would think 5 inch would be plenty? Dont want the 7 inch if its gonna drag on ground if I drive into uneven ground.

I would love to help but I can't really tell you if you need the B&W Tow & Stow 2-Ball Mount with 5" Drop part # BWTS20037B (part # BWTS20037C) or 7" Drop part # BWTS20040B (part # BWTS20040C) as it varies by application so you will need to measure for yourself. The measurement you're looking for is the distance from the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver on the truck minus the distance from the ground to the bottom of the coupler on the trailer while level. You'll then want to choose the ball mount that covers this difference. If you have multiple trailers then use the one with lowest coupler height or if you don't have any trailers yet you can use the average of around 17". If you go with an extreme drop, this may allow you to tow more trailers level but it could also restrict ground clearance so there is a bit of give and take.

The overall length of the vertical adjustment shank on the 7" drop model is 11" if you want to go solely off ground clearance.
