The correct B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 is part # BWGNRK1067 which is composed of the Center Section for B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Hitch part # BWGNRC959 and B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Custom Installation Kit for Chevy/GMC part # BWGNRM1067. Therefore, if you are reusing a hitch from another truck you'll need to make sure these are the parts you have.
In regards to the hitch ball getting stuck, so long as you clean the socket and ball then apply a light coat of grease you should not have any issues. I can't recommend drilling and tapping for a grease fitting though.
