Is Tow Weight Rating Reduced When Using Long 12-5/8" Curt Ball Mount
Question:
I am thinking of purchasing this item: Ball Mount 3/4 Rise or 2 - 12-5/8 Long Item # D-26 I need a couple extra inches to get the hitch out from under the spare tire on my new Bronco. Is this extra length going to affect my hitch capacity?

Not at all!
The Ball Mount 3/4" Rise or 2" Drop - 12-5/8" Long # D-26 is rated for 750 lbs tongue weight and 7,500 lbs towing so you just need to keep from exceeding the lower rated component, whether that's your trailer hitch receiver or this ball mount.
The reason hitch extenders reduce weight ratings is because they are pushing limits further out than what various products have been tested and approved for. This ball mount has been tested and approved for the ratings mentioned above so the only math you need to do is comparing your trailer numbers to what you're equipment is capable of handling.
Please note this is just the shank itself so you'll also need a hitch ball and a pin to keep it in place. I recommend checking out the following:
- 1-7/8" Hitch Ball # 19260 (2K tow rating)
- 2" Hitch Ball # 63845 (7.5K tow rating)
- 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # 63847 (7.5K tow rating)
- Hitch Pin and Clip # PC3
