Your 2008 Chevy Colorado should actually have a bundle of blunt cut wires taped to a wiring harness under the instrument panel according to the owner's manual from GM. This means you'll be splicing in brake controller wiring instead of just plugging in a controller. The only time you'll have a pre-existing plug is if someone else had a brake controller installed and they left that controller-specific pigtail installed.
For your application I recommend going with the Prodigy P2 # 90885 brake controller because of how user-friendly and reliable it is. To install the controller you'll need to connect these wires from the brake controller pigtail to the pre-existing wires on your truck:
Blue - Dark Blue
Black - Red
White - Black
Red - Light Blue
