Fit of Thule Roof-Mounted Cargo Basket # TH859XT on 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek
Question:
Will the Thule Roof Mounted Cargo Basket mount onto the factory aero cross bars and rails of my 2014 xv crosstrek? If yes then what changes should I expect to see in my gas mileage? If no then what aerodynamic baskets would you recommend? Thank you guys so much!

Any time a piece of equipment is attached to the roof of your vehicle, there will be a perceptible effect on your gas mileage, although it is not possible to say exactly how much of an effect there will be because of all the variables involved. The basket alone on your roof will have a small, but noticeable effect. Any items placed in the basket that extend above the top rail of the basket will have a further negative effect on your mileage. For this reason, I recommend that folks remove the basket when it is not being used.
If the spread (distance from center of front bar to center of rear bar) can be adjusted so that the spread is between 20 inches and 37 inches then the basket will fit just fine.
I would expect that most of the baskets that include fairings would be aerodynamically similar. This Thule basket you refer to is among our most popular baskets, and is very highly rated with our customers.
