Expert Reply:

The bias ply tires and radial tires in size 175/80-13 in a load range D are going to have the same capacity: 1,610 pounds at 65 psi. The radial is # AM10210 and the bias is # AM1ST77. You will want to match or exceed the trailer capacity and I do not recommend using the tires if you will be over their capacity, even for short distances.

The solution is to go up to a 185/80-13 tire load range D. This size is going to be only 0.3 inches taller than the 175s and will also be 0.394 inches wider. You will need to make sure you have the space all around the tire for the larger size. For a bias tire in this size use # AM1ST79. A radial is not available in a 185.
