Will Brake Actuator Cause Trailer Sway

Question:

Hi, I have a Demco DA-10 brake actuator and I believe the wear liners are worn to the point its making my trailer sway at higher speeds. Have you ever heard of this happening? Is it common? How much movement in the tongue is there on a new unit? Any info would be great, thanks!

I have never heard of a brake actuator being the cause of trailer sway; you mentioned higher speeds, and without a form of sway control, that's going to naturally occur more the faster you go. I can't give you any specific amount of movement in the tongue, but if you're mostly experiencing sway at higher speeds, you can help remedy the issue with a weight distribution hitch with sway control.

The Reese Steadi-Flex is compatible with surge brakes and the right one depends on your tongue weight; for example, for 500 lbs - 1,000 lbs tongue weight go with the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control # RP66559.

This will require the 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # C40008.
