Replacement Hub For an Older Shorelander Trailer With Inner Bearing 1-3/8 Inch & Outer 1-1/16 Inch

Question:

I have what I think is an old Shorelander Trailer and I need to replace both hubs. The trailer has tapered spindles. The existing hubs are 5 X 4 1/2 lug configuration. I took a digital micrometer and measured the tapered spindle and came up with the following: Inner thickness of tapered spindle: 1.3705 or 1 3/8”? Outer thickness of tapered spindle: 1.0620 or 1 1/16”? I also noticed that the inner bearing had no bearing race on the back side of the hub. Do I also need an inner bearing race to place on the tapered spindle and attached with Loctite before installed the new hub with new front and rear bearings. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thx!

Based on your measurements you will need a Inner Bearing # L68149 and Outer Bearing # L44649. This is the common size used on 3,500lb trailer axles. It seems odd to not have a Inner Race # L68111 on your hub. The bearing race will be a press in fit and will not require Loctite to hold it in place. On the CE Smith Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # CE13515 you saw the races will already come pressed in place. I do recommend measuring the landing for the grease seal. The Seal # 58846 included on this hub has a ID of 1.719". Many older boat trailer hubs used a Seal # 168255TB which has an ID of 1.687". Please let me know if your spindle has a different size for the spindle.
