Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2013 Honda Odyssey - Curt

Today, on our 2013 Honda Odyssey, we'll be taking a look at and installing the Curt Custom Fit Class 2 Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number C12031. Here's what our Curt Class 2 Trailer Hitch Receiver is going to look like once it's installed on the back of the vehicle. It is going to have a really nice and sleek design to it, having that full width round bar design that's going to be fully welded and go with the body's shape. The fully welded design is also going to add to its dependability and long-lasting strength, as well as that black powder coat finish that's going to help prevent any kind of rust and corrosion. It's going to have that plate steel design for our chain tie-downs, as well as that half-inch pinhole going straight through to attach all our inch-and-a-quarter by inch-and-a-quarter accessories. When we're going to be towing those accessories, keep in mind that you're going to have the 350 pounds of tongue weight capacity and 3,500 pounds max towing capacity. Now that we've gotten a good look at our hitch, let's get a few measurements to assist you.

From the center our our pinhole to the outermost edge of our bumper is going to be about 3 and 3/8 of an inch. From the top of our receiver tube to the ground, it's going to be about 13 and one quarter inches. These measurements should assist you in selecting those hitch accessories such as ball mounts, bike racks, and cargo carriers for your new receiver hitch. Let's go ahead and see how it's installed. First thing we're going to need to do in the installation of our new hitch is remove the under body panel on the driver's side. We use a flat blade screwdriver or trim panel removal tool to pop the centers out and lower these fasteners.

We'll have three fasteners around the outside and one on the back. Now the one on the back is going to be a 10 mm screw located up here at the top. You'll see a Phillips head screw also attaching this panel just behind the rear driver's mud flap, located right here. We'll go ahead and remove that as well, so we can pull down that panel. You may also need to remove the driver's side mud flap to gain access to that final screw. Once you have that screw removed, we'll go ahead and lower down that driver's side appearance panel, and return that back to the owner.

We'll go ahead and re-install our driver's side mud flap now that we have that appearance panel down. You're going to have two attachment points here at the rear which will be the weld nuts, and this will be the same on the other side. There will be an additional attachment point just here on the driver's side, which will be this hole here. If it makes it easier, you can also lower down the exhaust to give you a little bit more working room, but it's not required. Use a little spray lubricant to spray out the weld nuts and clean them out. Use a tube brush, part number 814092, if necessary, to help you clean out those threads.

Now go ahead and get an extra set of hands to help us raise our hitch into place. The hardware we're going to be using is going to be a conical tooth washer and a 12 mm bolt. Start them into the existing weld nuts that we cleaned out, with the teeth of the washer facing the hitch. I'll go ahead and place our second bolt in the second weld nut here. Go ahead and use your bolt leader, put a little bend in it, put it into the hole and out the access hole just behind it. Once you have it out the access hole, we'll put our locking block into the frame, and then our carriage bolt will thread on to the end of the bolt leader. Place the carriage bolt into the frame, and pull the bolt through, and then thread on our nut. Now we'll go ahead and tighten down our two bolts and nut on this side, and two bolts on the passenger side. Now, with our hardware tightened down, we'll go ahead and torque it to our manufacturer's specifications, noted in our instructions. That will do it for our review and installation of the Curt Custom Fit Class 2 Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number C12031 on our 2013 Honda Odyssey.
