Faster Trailer Tire Recommendation for a 4.80-12 Trailer Tire

Question:

I have a small 40 by 48 trailer with 4.80-12in. tires. I plan to bring it on a long trip from Florida to Alaska. Probably at 50 - 60 of rated load capacity. I will be driving at highway speeds so I need tires that can handle these speeds. The wheels are 4 lug . To what tire size should I upgrade? I will need tires and wheels as my plan is to keep the ones that came with the trailer as spares for the trip. Please advise.

For your application I recommend checking out the Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Tire w/ 12" White Spoke Wheel # AM35351DX. This has the 4 on 4" bolt pattern same as your wheels, it uses a load range of D (1,220 lbs at 65 psi), and is rated for 81 mph so you'll be able to travel a little faster on the highway.

Please note this tire will be about 1/2" closer to your frame and will also be about 1/4" closer to your fender so you need to make sure you're still maintaining the 2" frame and 4" fender clearances.

Attached is a review video for you to check out!
