Installation of a Proportional Brake controller on a 1999 Chevy Astro Van
Question:
I have a 1999 Chevy Astro Van. I have a factory installed 7 way. I noticed that you do not have a category for an Astro van. What should I use for buying and installing if I want a medium priced proportional brake controller?

I would recommend the Tekonsha PRODIGY P3 Brake Controller - Proportional, item # 90195, for your vehicle. This is one of our best selling controllers and is very reliable.
I checked with Draw-Tite and there is no factory wiring harness connector under the dash of the 1999 Chevy Astro Van, so the brake controller will need to be hard wired. With your factory 7-way there should be a wire running from the trailer connector brake terminal to the inside of the vehicle under the dash. If you cannot trace this wire down then you can run a 10 gauge wire, usually blue, item # 10-1-1, back to the brake terminal in the trailer connector. You will then need to connect the red wire from the brake controller to the stop light switch wire behind the brake pedal. Finally connect the white wire to a ground and the black wire to the vehicle battery through a 30 amp circuit breaker, item # 38630.
