Recommended Weight Distribution System for a Closed Tongue Trailer

Question:

Hello! I need some expert help! I’m looking for a WD hitch with anti sway to use with my Durango and a small single axle toy hauler. But the tow unit is between 4900 and 5600 lbs loaded, with up to 700# tongue weight . The trailer is the problem.. it’s Not open channel- I need a hitch that uses an attachment on the outside of the channel - at least 25” back from the center of the ball … and won’t interfere with the trailer Jack. It’s a very heavily built but poorly designed trailer nose. I have pics I can send. I tow it fairly regularly . We used to tow it with a Titan XD which is now sold. … the trailer has a 2 5/8” ball and electric brakes. Help!

I have exactly what you need. You will want to use the Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control item # RP66083 and the Chain Hangers for Reese Weight Distribution Systems item # RP58305. This system has a tongue weight range of 400 lbs - 800 lbs. The hangers will be attached directly to the side of your trailer's channels. This will solve the problem of your channel not being open.

The chain hangers will mount about 30" back from hitch ball. The sway-control cams attach to the bottom of the tongue. This system will not fit trailer frames wider than 2-1/2".

This system includes a 2" shank with the total height adjustment along the shank of 5-1/4".

This system does not include a hitch ball. Depending on your coupler size you will either need a 2" Hitch Ball item # A-90 or a 2-5/16" hitch ball item # C40030. 2-5/8" is the length of the shank. You'll either have a 2" or a 2-5/16" coupler.
