Troubleshooting Shoes On Dexter Brake # K23-103-00 Wearing Unevenly When Used as Parking Brake Only
Question:
I found my Dexter brake particular on my LHS the secondary shoe worn out significantly quickly than the primary shoe. Measurement is about 0.35mm vs 0.5mm. on RHS the brake shoe measurement are both in 0.5mm. I think it should an equal spreading force between the primary and secondary shoes and wonder what could be the possible causes? I use it for park bark only without electronic function.

The only thing I can come up with is you have a combination of issues contributing to the issue. The first being the Dexter Breakaway and Parking Kit # T2385200 is not fully releasing the brake on the left hand side. This would also need the adjuster/internal components in the brake assembly to be out of adjustment for only one pad to wear on the Brake Assembly # K23-103-00.
The only other thing that comes to mind is if the springs which hold the secondary shoe are damaged and not returning the shoe to the retracted position causing it to wear while the trailer is driven.
