Using a supplemental cooler in place of your factory cooler in your 2003 Ford F-250 is a huge benefit, however, ideally you will want to run both your factory and also a supplemental cooler for optimum performance.
Supplemental transmission coolers also work better than coolers that are integrated into your radiator system. My research shows that the transmission cooler in your truck is located below the radiator which typically gets a lot hotter and does not cool as well as a supplemental cooler that sits away from your radiator would.
When picking a transmission cooler for your vehicle try to get the largest one that will fit in your allowable space. The best mounting location is noted in the picture which is in front of your radiator, but, the other two mounting options are also noted. Measure the space in front of your radiator or air conditioning condenser and you can select your cooler from there. I have attached a link to take you to options for your vehicle.
If you are towing, adding a transmission cooler is a very good idea. Towing puts extra strain on your engine which in turn increases the engine temperature. By having a secondary cooler installed you will alleviate some of that added heat.
Even when you are not towing the cooler is at work. The cooler is a flow-through device and operates anytime the engine is running.
If you choose to go with the Derale # D13504 that you originally referenced, then you will also need the Derale Radiator Adapter Fitting # D13025.
