Brake Output on Connector with No Trailer Connected Using Curt Discovery Trailer Brake Controller

Hello i purchased this product and even when sitting at idle the brake pin has 12 volts to it. Is this normal?

In regards to the Curt Discovery Trailer Brake Controller part # C84VV, there should not be power on the brake output pin inside the trailer connector without a trailer hooked up. There could be a few different things causing this but in order to rule out the brake controller you'll want to do a bench test outlined below. If the controller test good then that means you have a short on the brake output wire on the vehicle and you'd need to start tracing and checking for shorts. It may also just be easier for you to run a new wire of you own using part # 10-1-1 which is sold by the foot.
