Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 1989 Chevy K1500

Question:

Thanks Jon. I was hoping for a more heavy duty hitch but will see if e29KR will do. I appreciate you help.

The Curt 3-Piece Trailer Hitch Receiver # C15511 will fit a 1989 Chevy K1500 if it's the cab and chassis model. Since you have a pickup we need to find a different hitch.

If your Chevy has the standard or step bumper then I recommend checking out the etrailer hitches; part # e88AR if you have a crew cab or part # e29KR if you don't have a crew cab. These are lower capacities than the Curt hitch you currently have but it matches more closely to what your truck is really capable of pulling.

If you have the roll pan bumper use the Curt # 13942 and if you have the 10" deepdrop bumper use the Curt # C13099.

As long as you verify what you have and match it with what I've listed above you'll be able to get a hitch that will fit your pickup. Attached are some installation instructions for the different hitches for you to check out.

Thanks for the feedback! The etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e29KR is rated for 600/6,000 lbs tongue and tow (1,000/10,000 lb with a weight distribution system) so if you're wanting something a bit more beefy I recommend checking out the B&W Heavy-Duty Trailer Hitch Receiver # BWHDRH25124 which is rated for 1,600/16,000 lbs tongue and tow. Keep in mind your truck will be the limiting factor so you won't be able to get the whole weight capacity out of this hitch. I do understand that it's nice to have a bit of cushion when it comes to safety margins though. The B&W line of towing products are always well produced, backed by excellent service from B&W, plus these are made in the USA and come with a limited lifetime warranty!
