How to Find Best Height Setting for B&W Companion on 2023 GMC Sierra 3500 with OEM Puck System

Question:

What is the correct height to set this hitch at? My trailer is 50-1/2” from ground to kingpin plate. My truck is a 2023 Sierra 3500 HD Long Bed and the bed height to ground measurement is 39-1/2”? Thank you

Thank you for the info!

Since the difference between your 2023 GMC Sierra 3500 truck bed and 5th wheel pin box is right at 11" you're going to need to put the B&W Companion # BWRVK3710 into the lowest height setting at 16-3/4".

With that being said, there are a few other things to note as well. You need to make sure you have adequate clearance for the nose of your 5th wheel RV above the bed sides of your pickup (recommended is 5" - 6") and you also want to make sure that your 5th wheel is as level as possible. Without messing with anything your trailer is going to be at least 5" nose-high and we typically want to shoot for just a few inches.

This dilemma isn't uncommon for newer trucks though because the last few years trucks have naturally increased in height. To help remedy this you can raise the height of your trailer with a lift kit or an over-under conversion kit, part # K71-384-00 for a 2-3/8" axle or part # K71-385-00 for a 3" axle. This should help get your trailer pin box closer to level with the 5th wheel hitch and keep you from having to tow nose-high.

Attached are some videos for you to check out.
