Recommended Roof Rack And Cargo Carrier For 2014 Santa Fe With Panoramic Roof

Question:

Dear Sir / Madam, We have a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe LIMITED with a Panoramic SunRoof. We plan to go on a trip with all seats occupied and want to see if we can add some soft luggage on the roof. The SUV seems to have a factory installed very flush front to back rails. I am looking at purchasing a nice pair of cross rails that can be mounted safely - since we have a panoramic sunroof. I dont care about opening the sunroof while it is installed, but also want the possibility of removing the roof rails when we are not doing a trip and just commuting to work daily. Any help will be appreciated.

For your 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe with the panoramic sunroof, you will want to consult your owners manual or with the dealership to find what the roof weight capacity is for your vehicle. Please keep in mind the weight of any racks, and cargo carriers as well as the cargo would need to be considered when dealing with the roof weight capacity.

I recommend the 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Roof Rack by Thule. There are three numbers that make up the roof rack system for your vehicle. The Thule WingBars, either part # TH711200 for silver or # TH711220 for black, are aluminum aerodynamically designed 47 inch crossbars that are extremely quiet, and have t-slots which enable you to mount any t-slotted accessories.

The Thule Podium Foot Pack for Aero Bars, part # TH460R, are vehicle specific and attach to the vehicle at pre-installed fixpoints. These require no drilling and are easily removed.

The Thule Roof Rack Fit Kit for Podium-Style Foot Packs, part # THKIT4029, are the custom designed and have soft pads which protect the vehicle finish, and are easily removed when not in use.

If you wish to use a soft cargo carrier, I recommend a cargo basket. This would prevent the cargo bag from sitting on the panoramic sunroof on your vehicle. When cargo bags are loaded they will sag, and wind up resting on the sun roof.

I recommend the Rhino-Rack Roof Mounted Steel Cargo Basket, part # RMCB. This roof basket has a fairing attached which helps with wind resistance, which makes it quieter, and weighs approximately 36 lbs, so that needs to be considered in the roof capacity weight of your vehicle. The inside diameter of this basket is 30-1/2 inches wide by 41 inches long and 7-13/16 inches deep. I have linked you to a product review video for this roof basket. I have also attached a link to our products page for roof cargo baskets we carry.

I have attached a link to our product page for cargo bags. I recommend the Rightline Edge Rooftop Cargo Bag, part # RL100E20. This bag is 15 cubic feet, and measures 40 inches long by 36 inches wide and is 18 inches tall. It is made with weatherproof PVC fabric and is reinforced with nylon mesh, and is secured to your cargo basket with the attached 4 straps.

You may find that you wish to consider a hard cargo carrier for your vehicle. I recommend a couple of carriers that would work for your Santa Fe and not interfere with the tailgate when it is opened. I recommend the Thule Pulse Medium Rooftop Cargo Box, part # TH614. It has 14 cubic feet of space and weighs approximately 30 lbs.

The other Cargo box I recommend is the Thule Force XT Sport Rooftop Cargo Box, part # TH6356B. This box has 11 cubic feet of storage and has dual side access. This cargo box weighs approximately 31 lbs.

I also recommend a wheel mount tire step like part # HE4040. This has a weight capacity of 400 lbs, slips over the tire easily allowing access to the roof mounted equipment, and folds flat for easy storage when not in use.
