What Is the Towing Capacity of a 2019 Kia Sorento
Question:
Read this response on your site... If you have the 3.3L V6 then if you have the 3,500 lb towing capacity with 350 lb tongue weight if you have the 1-1/4 inch receiver and 5,000 lb and 500 lb tongue weight if you have the 2 inch receiver. We have the Curt # C13195 and etrailer.com # e98843 trailer hitch receivers that are both rated at 750 lb tongue weight max and 5000 lb towing capacity max. Kia rates their products just like these manufacturers - separate from the vehicle - so in this case it appears the Sorento factory hitch is not rated as high as the aftermarket hitch. As long as your trailers loaded tongue weight doesnt exceed 500 lbs and the total weight of the loaded trailer doesnt exceed 5000 lbs, you will be within your capacities. helpful expert reply by: Jason S So with the Curt C13195 max tongue would be 750 pounds for the KIA V6 AWD with 2-inch receiver? Also any tips or parts suggestions for adding a 7-way plug using an existing 4-pin wiring harness already installed? Thanks!

The towing capacity of a 2019 Kia Sorento varies greatly based on equipment and engine option but I will try to simplify it for you below. If you have the 2.4L engine then the max capacity is 2,000 lbs but if you have the 3.3L engine it could be 2,000 lbs or 3,500 lbs (2WD) or 5,000 lbs (4WD) if you have the factory tow package. If you need further clarification please see page 5-133 in your owner's manual.
In order to tow a trailer you'll need a trailer hitch for which I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver part # e98843, it's rated higher than the vehicle but that does not matter as you are always limited to the weakest part of your setup which is the vehicle. You'll also need a warning harness, if you request a 7-way then you can use the Tekonsha OEM Replacement Vehicle Wiring Harness part # TK24FR if you have the tow package otherwise you'd need to combine the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # C56256 and 4 to 7-Way with 4-Way Kit part # ETBC7.
Please note, if the trailer has brakes you'll also need a brake controller and for this I recommend the Tekonsha BRAKE-EVN Trailer Brake Controller part # TK63VR. Don't forget the Curt Towing Kit part # C45534.
