Comparing Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty and Elite Brake Controllers for a 2022 GMC Canyon
Question:
Which brake controller, Liberty or Elite, for 2022 GMC Canyon 4x4 with factory tow package but no factory brake controller. What all would I need to order to install the suggested controller. Thinking about installing where factory brake controller would be. I will have to order that dash panel to replace the card holder dash panel that is there currently. I understand my truck has the wiring behind the left side toe kick panel and I will need a wiring harness to wire to this wiring. Any experience on installing in a GMC Canyon?

The difference between the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty # RED24FR (and pigtail wiring # RED69FR) and the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite # RED44FR is that the Liberty has proportional towing mode only while the Elite has proportional AND user-control towing modes. Proportional towing is great for everyday towing applications and most people don't need anything more than that. The user-control feature really comes in handy for off-road towing and towing in mountain-type terrain where you're on the brakes going down a hill for a long time and you need your trailer brakes to be helping out with slowing down.
I personally like the Elite most because it has that extra feature but if you don't ever plan on towing off-road or in the mountains it will be something you pay for that you don't really use so ultimately the choice is yours.
You are correct that there are OEM wires in the left kick panel on the driver's side that you'll need to fish out and connect to the Redarc controller per function. You'll then want to use the Universal Mounting Bracket # 331-TPSI-001 if you use the Liberty (it comes with the Elite) to install the control knob and have a clean-looking installation.
Attached are some videos for you to check out. We haven't installed either of these on a Canyon as of yet but we did install the Elite on a 2021 Chevy Colorado that I'm linking for you to reference.
