Best 2-1/2 Inch Gen-Y Shank for a Weight Distribution System

Question:

Hi, I’ll be hauling numerous different travel trailers weighing between 5000-9000 pounds. Most trailers would max out around 8000 pounds. I also have a 2.5 inch receiver. Should I purchase the hitch with 1100 TW or the 1700 TW hitch? Thanks,

If you're hauling different trailers with different weights you aren't going to want to be worried about tongue weight and being over capacity. I recommend using the Gen-Y Torsion Weight Distribution Shank - 2-1/2" Hitches - 6-1/2" Drop/Rise - 1,700 lbs TW item # 325-GH-1102 and never having to worry about it.

Also this is the smallest Gen-Y shank for a 2-1/2 receiver. The next size up Item # 325-GH-1302 which has a 2,400 lbs tongue weight capacity.

I saw you were looking at the Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - No Shank - Trunnion Bar - 17K GTW, 1,700 lbs TW item # RP66075. This system is compatible with the GEn-Y shank and would give you plenty of capacity for your varying range of weights but not put you too over rated that you would be uncomfortable.

You will also need a hitch ball, depending on the size of your trailer's coupler, either the 2" Hitch Ball # A-90 or 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # 19286.
