Upgrading Weight Distribution System for Trailer with 1,200 lb Loaded Tongue Weight

Question:

I currently have a Fastway E2 hitch I know all my numbers are good but after making a trip to Tennessee I think the current hitch is not Sufficient enough. The bars seem to not make complete contact with the L brackets. I have a Salem 31 KQBTS front to back its 36foot long. Im around 1100-1200TW hauling with a 3/4 ton SRW truck. Just looking for input on what WDH setups would be recommended for a trailer this big. Tractor trailers and gusts of wind are the main points when it seems the hitch is doing nothing and the trailer starts to sway all over. Ive tried a couple different adjustments to see if I could make the bars contact differently but no luck.

I think you're correct that you don't have enough tongue weight on your trailer. Since you're maxing out the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution # FA92-00-1200 and the bars aren't touching the L-Brackets it leads me to believe you need a bit more tongue weight (which you should be able to add another 100-200 lbs of tongue weight to the trailer and still be safe.

For your application I recommend checking out the Strait-Line Weight Distribution # RP66130 with the Shank # RP54970 and 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # C40030. This gives you a system with a tongue weight range of 800 lbs - 1,500 lbs and arguably the best sway control on the market. Once you increase the tongue weight of your trailer you should see the arms resting as they should so your system levels out and you get more control.
