Recommended Weight Distribution System for a 8,000 lbs Travel Trailer

Question:

Looking for a WDH recommendation: 1- max trailer weight 9000 pounds, 8000 pounds most of the time 2- 1/2 ton Toyota Tundra tow vehicle 3- we do some boondocking, not in super rough places, but want good ground clearance 4- NOT a fan of Reese. DO like Curt and some others. Suggestions or things to look for appreciated. Thanks.

For your set up, I recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution item # FA92-00-1200. This system has a 800 lbs - 1,200 lbs tongue weight range which will be perfect for your 8,000 lbs trailer. The trunnion bars will mount just below your trailer's tongue instead of hanging down a few inches to help with ground clearance.

The built in sway control will keep your trailer in line when you are going down the highway and pass a semi or encounter a strong gust of wind. It includes a 2" shank with a total height adjustment of 7-1/2".

I highly recommend removing the trunnion bars and disconnecting the system if you go off road. You run the risk of causing damage if you hit a rut and shift suddenly. This goes for any weight distribution system. Flat gravel and dirt roads are ok but if you're on unkept trails you'll want to remove the bars.

This system does not include a hitch ball. Depending on your coupler size you will either need a 2" Hitch Ball item # A-90 or a 2-5/16" hitch ball item # C40030.

I also recommend the Classic Accessories Tow Bar and Weight Distribution Tote item # CA80113. This heavy duty bag is perfect for storing your weight distributing hitch. It is 36" x 11" Wide x 8" Tall and has padding that prevents damage to your hitch and prevents dings to your vehicle's cargo area from shifting gear.
