Does Trailer Hitch Receiver For 2022 Ford Escape Hybrid Increase Towing Capacity

Question:

I have a 2022 Ford escape titanium hybrid. It’s listed tow capacity is 1500 pounds, but I see several alternatives on your site for a class three hitch rated at 3500 pounds. Could I use this on my escape hybrid to tow a 3000 pound trailer without damaging the escape hybrid? Would a 3000 pound tow be too much for my transmission and powertrain? Will there be an effect on my warranty? Thanks.

You always need to go by the lowest-rated capacity for towing, be it the hitch or the vehicle rating, so a hitch rated for 3,500 lbs does not increase the towing capacity of your 2022 Ford Escape hybrid with a maximum capacity of 1,500 lbs, it will remain at 1,500 lbs.

Manufacturers often overbuild hitches for strength and durability, though that is just the hitch capacity, and does not reflect the capacity of the vehicle it fits. So you can tow with your '22 Escape hybrid, but no more than 1,500 lbs; to do so you can use the following hitch that fits your vehicle (though not the PHEV models):

- Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C23FR

You will also need a wiring harness to ensure your trailer's lighting functions work, the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C75CR.
