Recommended Weight Distribution System For A 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Question:

I just did a nice 500 mile one way trip with my ORV250. Everything went well but man was there a lot of white knuckle moments from Id assume wind, and possibly lack of towing assistance. Truck: 05 2500HD, 6.0 gasser, single cab, long box 7500lbs airbags with 80psi in them when towing Curb weight - 6,100lbs GCWR - 16,000lbs Trailer: 31foot overall length GTW at the time of towing - 8,000lbs So I was about 2,000lbs shy of my GCWR. The truck towed the trailer fine and stopped it with no problems. The issue I was having was when a vehicle would pass me, or wind would hit. The trailer would saw side to side. The same feeling you would get with a single axle trailer that was not loaded properly. How do I fix this?

When it comes to towing for long distances at a time with that much weight I would recommend using a weight distribution system which will help with the sway while traveling. The Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion - 10,000 pounds GTW, 1,000 pounds TW # C17500.

Using this weight distribution hitch will evenly distribute weight over the axles of the towed vehicle and trailer to improve the stability and control. It will also create a more level ride for both tow vehicle and trailer. The integrated active sway control with limit the side-to-side movement of the trailer.

The system can handle a tongue weight between 800 pounds to 1,000 pounds, and has a maximum gross towing weight up to 10,000 pounds. When using a weight distribution system it is best to be as close as possible to the tongue weight of trailer when using the system. This system will be right in the middle of what you will need. Using anything higher or lower then the trailer weight will cause more sway and could be more dangerous. Everything that is needed is included in this system.

I attached a review video link below.
