What Do I Need To Tow My 2018 Jeep Cherokee Behind My Motorhome
Question:
Will this fit my 2018 Jeep Cherokee? Can you suggest other parts needed to flat tow my vehicle behind my motorhome? Thanks for your assistance!

If you want to flat tow your 2018 Jeep Cherokee, you will need to determine what type of Jeep Cherokee you have. Not all models can be flat-towed. If you have a front wheel drive model, you will need to use a tow dolly or a trailer. We do offer tow dollies and my recommendation is the Demco Kar Kaddy SS Tow Dolly with Disc Brakes - Foldable - 4,800 lbs, part # DM9713045. It comes with safety chains and a surge brake coupler.
You will need a trailer, if your 2018 Jeep Cherokee has a 1-speed transfer unit. You will not be able to tow this vehicle with any wheels on the ground. Unfortunately, we do not offer any tow trailers.
If you have a 2-speed transfer unit in your Cherokee, you will be able to flat tow your vehicle. Provided you put your transmission in park and your power transfer unit in neutral. You will only be able to tow in the forward direction, no backing up allowed. You will need the following items; a base plate, tow bar, supplemental braking system, safety chains, and safety lights.
Now the etrailer Invisible Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms, part # e98954, you attached to your question is compatible with your trailer. This base plate will work with the etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar for Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plates - 2" RV Mount - 6K, part # e74ZR. It is a non-binding tow bar, so you will not have to worry about being on flat terrain to hook up your towed vehicle. It also comes with the safety chains/cables.
The wiring I recommend for your vehicle is the Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles - 7-Wire to 6-Wire Straight Cord, part # RM-152-98146-7. This wiring kit will allow your trailer to mirror the lights from your vehicle when towing the trailer. You will also need the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles, part # RM-156-25, to keep your battery charged while it is being towed.
Lastly, you will need a supplemental braking system. This will allow your trailer to brake with same brake force you apply in your motorhome. I am a fan of the Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System - Proportional, part # SM99251. You do not have to set it up every time you are ready to flat tow your vehicle. It is a permanent system for your vehicle.
I have included product description links, video review links, and videos of these parts being installed on a 2018 Jeep Cherokee below.
