Parts Needed To Install Tekonsha Primus IQ on 2022 Toyota Highlander Around Brake Switch

Question:

I am installing a tekonsha primus iq brake controller in my 2022 Toyota highlander. I am hesitant to use wire clips to tap into the brake wires coming out of the harness behind the brake pedal, they are so small! Is there an alternative wiring suggestion? What about running a line from the rear overhead brake light and running a wire back to the controller?, or the back up camera wire? The space under the dash is just so tight and there is virtually no extra wire if I happen to cut one of the 3 blue brake light wires. Are other customers reporting the same concerns? I watched your installation video, but there is not nearly the wire available on my 2022. Do you sell a harness i can snap into? Any other suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks for your help!

I have seen the Roadmaster Universal Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751000 used as an alternative to tapping into the brake switch wiring. There are 3 wire connections for this switch. First a fused power wire, a ground wire and the output wire for the brake controller.

This will allow you to wire in the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller # TK90160 with the Pigtail Wiring Harness # 7894 on your 2022 Toyota Highlander, without tapping into your brake switch wiring. The Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7 contains the 7-way and wiring. Let me know if you do not already have a 4-way on your Highlander.

I do not recommend trying to tie into any of the brake lights to get the input signal for the brake controller.
