Recommended Supplemental Braking System to Flat-Tow a 1994 Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler
Question:
Good morning, What is the best brake system for flat towing my 1984 Jeep CJ8 scrambler. We tow the CJ everywhere including through the mountains with small curved roads. It weighs approximately 5100 pounds.

A great option for your vehicle is the BrakeBuddy supplemental braking system like the Brake Buddy Classic 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System # HM39494. This system is great because it is easily installed and removed from the vehicle. It also has customizable setting that allow you to set the correct braking pressure. I went ahead and called my tech at BrakeBuddy, and he said that this system works as long as you have full-time electric brakes or vacuum brakes on your 1985 Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler. A way that you can test this is if you press on the brakes with your Scrambler 5 times and your pedal gets stiff, this system will work.
It is important to note that you need to consider is the distance between the seat and the brake pedal. That measurement must be at least 22 inches from seat and brake pedal in order to have enough space for the Brake Buddy Classic 3 to function. I recommend making this measurement to make sure you have the required length.
As with all flat-tow applications, I recommend consulting with your Jeep owner's manual to make sure you abide by all manufacturer guidelines.
