Great question!
The Brake Buddy Classic 3 # HM39494 is a more basic system than the Brake Buddy Select 3 # HM39524 as the Classic just uses preset braking (which applies the brakes at a preset intensity when the inertia sensor detects deceleration) while Select lets you choose between proportional and full-braking action (activates towed vehicle brakes at max power regardless of RV brake pedal intensity) when you’re towing a vehicle. The Select also comes with a remote control so you can adjust settings from your RV.
Aside from that both of them have a portable design that works great for someone who flat-tows different vehicles or doesn't want to install something permanently on their vehicle. You can customize the sensitivity of the systems to fit the braking action to how you like and the wireless receiver mounts in your RV’s cab to signal different braking activity as you tow. Both of these are lightweight at 11 lbs and 12 lbs accordingly plus they use the TruFit risers so you can have a truly level system no matter what your floor is like in your vehicle.
I recommend going with the Select 3 for the extra full-braking action setting because it is very helpful for mountainous regions as the inertia sensor will have a difficult time reading proper braking power when the brakes are applied for long periods of time.
