Kuat Pivot 2 Swing Away Hitch Extender Weight Capacity On a 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon
Question:
Hello, I have a have a 2021 wrangler rubicon unlimited with an etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2inch Item # e98856, max tongue weight of 350lbs. I have a have a velocirax 5x bike rack, with weight of 85 lbs, overestimate of 5 bikes 150lbs. On your website it states that the Pivot V2 decreases tongue weight by 50, meaning 175lbs, but the max for the pivot v2 says 250lbs. Can you clarify please. Total tongue weight on the hitch is 274 and on the pivot v2 would be 235. I just want to be sure not overloading the hitch especially if jeep is packed with stuff as well. Thanks for your help.

The Kuat Pivot 2 Swing Away Hitch Extender # PVP20B does reduce hitch capacity by 50% so the maximum weight of capacity with the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98856 on your Jeep is going to be 175lbs. If this was used on a receiver with a 600lb capacity the maximum weight would then be 250lbs the maximum of the Pivot and not the 50% of hitch capacity.
As you have a 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon we do have the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # DT78MR that fits models with the Mopar Off Road Bumper #82213654. This receiver is rated for up to 675lbs of tongue weight and would then allow you to have the maximum 250lbs for the Pivot 2 extender. You will need to verify if you have this specific bumper on your Rubicon.
