What is Max Pressure Rating of Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12

Question:

Hello, This tire is rated at 1520 lb at 80 psi. Is the rating mean the max air pressure for this tire is 80 psi? Or it could go above 80 psi? I imagine the pressure will go up as I tow my trailer on a highway on a hot day. What is the max pressure on this tire before it becomes unsafe e.g., tire blow out. Thanks!

Expert Reply:

For trailer tires the max pressure is actually the psi you need to inflate the tire to when cold to ensure you don't lose weight capacity and you don't cause premature failure due to heat build up. So the Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 # AM10140 that you referenced has a 1,520 lbs at 80 psi which means when the tire is cold inflate it to 80 psi and as long as you are under the weight and speed capacity (65 mph) you do not need to worry about any tire pressure fluctuations.
