As we mention in our fit guide, not all models of the 2012 Ford E series vans have both the 16 and the 4 pin plugs. If your van doesn't have the 4 pin plug, you'll need to use the # 118551 4 pole harness instead of the # 118261.

Since your van wasn't equipped with the factory trailer connector, it won't be completely prewired for a 7-way. How you proceed at this point will depend on whether the trailer you're wanting to tow has electric brakes or not.

If the trailer doesn't have electric brakes, you'll just need a # 37185 adapter. The adapter will plug into the 4 pole provided by the # 118551, and the white wire will be grounded to the vehicle frame. The remaining wires can be bundled up and tucked up out of the way.

If the trailer does have brakes, you'll need a brake controller like the Curt # C24VV Triflex and our brake controller installation kit, part # ETBC7 which will install as shown in the video I've linked for you. The kit includes the # 37185 adapter, as well as the wire, hardware and circuit breakers needed to complete the installation.
