Connection of Reverse Lockout Circuit to 7-Pole Vehicle End Trailer Connector

Question:

I recently purchased an adapter, 4 pole to 7 pole vehicle end connector to tow a boat trailer with a 2007 Lexus RX 350. The boat dealer says I need to supply 12 volts to the center pin on the 7 pole connector to release the brakes on the trailer when backing up. Question: If I use the blue wire hanging from the adapter and splice this into my rear back up lights on the towing vehicle, will this cause any problems or voltage issues because it comes equipped with LED lights? I dont want to short out the junction block that I just got installed.

The Center pole on the 7-Pole connector, item # 30717, will be connected to the yellow wire. If your trailer uses the center pole for the reverse lockout on your hydraulic surge brakes then you will connect the heavier yellow wire to the reverse circuit behind the vehicle taillights. You will need to use a circuit tester, item # PTW2993 if you need one, to find the correct wire to splice into.

The blue wire on the 7-Pole connector is for electric brakes and is normally ran to a brake controller, you will not need this connection unless you are also towing a trailer with electric brakes.

The Led lights should not be a problem when splicing into the reverse circuit. Just be sure to unhook the negative battery terminal once you have found the reverse wire that you need to tap into and then when you have the installation complete you can attach the negative terminal and check the function of the lights and center pole on the 7-Pole connector
