Given that the trailer hitch on your 2010 Ford Escape has a 1-1/4 inch receiver indicates that it is a either a Class I or Class II trailer hitch. With Class I and II hitches you are supposed to use the ball mount specified by the hitch manufacturer for warranty reasons. Class I and II hitches are tested with and given their rating based on a specific ball mount which is why you are supposed to use that specific ball mount.

If it is an aftermarket hitch from Reese or Draw-Tite you would use # 36051. If it is a Curt hitch then use # C45521. For either ball mount you can use 1-7/8 inch ball # 19256 or 2 inch ball # 19258.

If it is a factory OEM hitch then it may say what ball mount to use in the owners manual or a Ford dealer may be able to tell you. If it does not matter then to determine the best ball mount to tow the trailer level you will need to follow the FAQ article I have linked that explains how to measure for the correct ball mount. I have also linked all of the fixed ball mounts that fit 1-1/4 inch receivers so that after you do the measuring you can look through the list and find one that best fits the rise or drop you need.
