Trailer Brake Controller for a 2008 Saab 9-7X with Factory 7-Way Trailer Connector
Question:
I have a 2008 Saab 9-7x. I am towing a 26 ft flat trailer that is 2 axle and has electric brakes on it. Can you suggest a good brake electric control unit that is plug and play for this vehicle? The manual says it has the wiring for a Brake control unit under the drivers side of the dash. I havent located the wires yet but there is a large 24 pin maybe socket right under the dash. Both Trailer and Tow Vehicle are 7 pins. Thanks for any help you can give me.

The 24 pin receptacle you are seeing sounds like the OBD2 port and would not be used for a brake controller. You will need to utilize the owners manual or a Saab technician to locate the wires and to determine the functions of those wires. Identifying the wire functions is critical because a brake controller has to be hardwired in since there is no plug and play option available.
The wires on a brake controller are as follows:
white is ground
black is 12 volt power in
blue is output to the trailer brakes
red is input from the stoplight brake switch
The installation should be the same on your Saab as it is on the same generation Envoys and other GM vehicles with the factory tow package. I have linked a video that should help.
Since the vehicle already has a 7-Way and is wired for a brake controller you should not need any other parts. I have included a link to our FAQ article on brake controllers for you to view.
