Using Air Bags With Weight Distribution Hitch For Carrying Load In Bed While Towing With 2015 F-150

Question:

I have a f150 with 1900lb payload capacity. I carry my golf cart in the bed and my tongue weight of the trailer is 725. My golf cart is 800. My idea is to install air bags to compensate for the sag of the golf cart and then use my weight distribution / sway control as I would normally for the trailer. Am I on the right track here? I know ill have to play around with air pressure and the set up of my WDH, but I should be able to make both work together to help the truck out. I currently have the timbren kit, which worksinch but its really rough. Im hoping the air bags will be a smoother ride. Thank you for your time.

Yes, you are on the right track with what you are trying to accomplish. You will want to have the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution # FA92-00-0800 set for the weight of just the travel trailer.

Then you can use the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Air Springs w/ Internal Bumpers # AL88385 to adjust the ride height with the golf cart loaded. These will provide a much smoother ride than the Timbren # TFRTT1504E since the air pressure is adjustable to dial in the ride height and quality. I prefer this Air Lift kit as it includes an internal jounce bumper to help prevent excessive bounce.

The Air Lift WirelessAIR Compressor System # AL58WQ will allow you to control the air pressure in each bag from your smart phone using the Air Lift app. This makes installation and use easier since there are no air lines to run into your cab or separate wireless remotes to worry about losing or having dead batteries. You also benefit from the smart manifold that monitors the air pressure and keeps it within 3psi of your settings while the vehicle is being operated. This is great for maintaining the minimum 5psi in each bag when you are not carrying the additional load with your truck.
