Is Weight Distribution Hitch Recommended For 2020 Ford F-150 Towing 2021 Grand Design W/ 6395lb GVWR
Question:
I have a 2020 F150 Supercrew, 3.5 ecoboost with the max trailer tow package and a 2021 Grand Design MKE17 travel trailer with a dry weight of 4674 hitch weigth 480, length of 22. What do you recommend for any rear suspension modifications and/or weight distribution /anti sway bar recommendations. Do you recommend one or both?

I do recommend going with a weight distribution hitch, as the GVWR of your 2021 Grand Design MKE17 Travel Trailer is nearly the exact same weight as your 2020 Ford F-150 SuperCrew with the 3.5L EcoBoost. Typically a weight distribution hitch is recommend any time the weight of the trailer exceeds 50% of the tow vehicle weight.
To determine the correct weight distribution hitch you will need to find tour setups total tongue weight. Total tongue weight is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to tow trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your F-150. The easiest way to get an accurate tongue weight measurement is with a scale like the # e99044 but there are other methods outlined in the included help article.
Since your trailer has a GVWR of 6395lbs and tongue weight is typically 10-15% of the trailer weight you should expect to see 640-960lbs tongue weight if loaded to the GVWR.
For a weight distribution hitch that works with that range I recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution Hitch # FA94-00-1061 which works with total tongue weights between 600-1000lbs. This hitch has built in 2 point sway control that does a great job of keeping your trailer straight when going down the road.
This hitch includes a 2-5/16" hitch ball, so if your trailer coupler uses a 2" hitch ball you will also need the # A-90.
A weight distribution hitch will make it to where you do not need to add any rear suspension enhancement, as it distributes the weight on the rear axle of your truck to each axle of the trailer and both axles of your truck for better braking performance, and less suspension sag.
I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
