How to Carry Kayak on Naked Roof of 2022 Toyota RAV4

Question:

I have a new 2022 RAV4 and the new new for 2022 LE model does not come with either low profile or raised roof rails. These have a roofline that is as smooth as a baby’s ass and I need a universal roof rack system that will work for this vehicle. The current options I have are raised or flush rail system but I need something like that Rhino Rack 2500 system for this vehicle. I can’t even look at generics because it keeps asking for my vehicle type of which directs me to variants that no longer are applicable to this model and trim level. Why did Toyota remove any rail system on the LE model? No clue other than they were probably smoking some devils lettuce. Anyway, I’m struggling to find an adequate system to support a 11’ Vibe kayak with my Rhino Rack J racks, I cannot use the smaller 1” square tube cross bar tykes, I need something wider. Anyway, Rhino Rack gave me the finger when I asked them and Thule ignored me. I’ll pay for quality and longevity but I won’t pay for cheap. Thanks

While we have a way for you to carry a kayak on the bare roof of your 2022 Toyota RAV4, unfortunately there just isn't a roof rack with crossbars that fits a RAV4 with a naked roof; I checked with each manufacturer and nobody has made one. There also aren't generic or universal racks with crossbars because they require fit kits for the specific curvature and dimensions where the clamps fit on the door jambs.

Having said all that, the only solution I can see is using the Malone HandiRack # MPG452.

The # MPG452 is an inflatable system that you run straps through the doors of your RAV4 to secure, and allows you to mount and carry a kayak as it comes with load straps and bow/stern tie-downs; it also has a 180 lb weight capacity.

So while it won't allow you to use your J-style carriers, and isn't the exact solution you are looking for, I at least wanted to mention it as an option for you to carry your kayak. I have added a link below to a video review for you to check out as well of the Malone HandiRack # MPG452.
