Recommended Parts for Flat Towing 2006 Ford F-350 Super Duty

Question:

Looking to flat tow my 2006 Ford F-350 diesel. I saw a mount that looks like it goes on the front bumper in place of the factory tow hooks. Is this all that is required other then lighting and braking. If so this is an easy mount and I will be buying it. Also what would the rest of the parts for lights brakes and connecting to the rv. We have a 2006 tiffin phaeton 40 ft. Diesel pusher.

You are probably referring to something along the lines of the Demco Classic Base Plate Kit, # DM9517109. This is a confirmed fit for 2006 Ford F-350 Super Duty. This custom-fit base plate kit lets you hook up your tow bar to your Ford F-350 Super Duty and is a simple bolt-on installation with included hardware.

To flat a tow a vehicle you need a minimum of five items, the vehicle base plates, a tow bar, safety cables, a wiring solution that connects the towed vehicles indicator lights with that of the motorhome and a supplemental braking system. You may or may not need a high/low adapter depending the height of the tow vehicles. Once the flat tow set-up is place the tow bar needs to be +/- 3" of level or damage to steering components and excessive tire wear can occur.

- Base Plate, Demco Classic Base Plate Kit, # DM9517109
- Tow Bar, Demco Excali-Bar III Non-Binding Tow Bar, # DM9511013 (includes needed safety cables)
- Wiring Solution, Roadmaster Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit, # RM-15267
- Supplemental Braking, since your motorhome has air brakes, Demco Air Force One, # DM26VR

For the needed tow bar, I suggested the Demco Excali-Bar III, # DM9511013. Because it is a non-binding and self-aligning tow bar that has independent arms with trigger releases. This makes it easy to connect and disconnect even on unlevel ground. It also has a built-in rise/drop that minimizes the need for an additional component in a high/low adapter.

The Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit, # RM-15267 allows you to use your Ford F-350 Super Duty's tail lights and wiring system while preventing feedback from your RV. Wires 2-wire and 3-wire systems to operate as a combined lighting systems and includes the needed 7-wire to 6-wire Flexo-Coil electrical cord.

The Demco Air Force One Supplemental Braking System w/ Wireless Coachlink, # DM26VR is a proportional braking system. When you apply the brakes in your motorhome, the system will engage your towed car's brakes at the same time and with the same pressure as those in your motorhome, creating synchronized braking. Once you install the Air Force One system, it stays concealed and out of your way - both in the RV and in the towed car.

I highly suggest that you review your vehicle specific owner's manual about information on your truck being flat towed, look under "Recreational Towing". My research indicates that the vehicle may be towed if it has a manual transfer case. If it has an automatic transfer case, a driveline disconnect would need to be installed. I urge you to confirm this information for yourself.

I'll link you to some of our flat towing help articles as well a few product review videos of what is listed above.
