Is A Converter Needed To Change A 2016 Forest River Georgetown Motorhome Start Battery To Lithium

Question:

So to be sure, I have purchased 2 Lion LiFePO4 Batteries for use as the house batteries. Other than replacing my convertor with the Progressive Dynamics PD9260C with the PD9160ALV, I dont need any other equipment?

You won't need to do anything to protect your alternator when switching out your starting battery to lithium. The only scenario where you would need to possibly change out equipment would be if you changed the house batteries of your 2016 Forest River Georgetown Motorhome. In which case you would need to check the converter or power center to verify that it is compatible with lithium batteries.

For example, the Go Power RV Converter and Smart Battery Charger # 34266169 you were looking at isn't compatible with Lithium batteries but a converter like the Progressive Dynamics Inteli-Power RV Converter and Battery Charger # PD9160ALV is compatible.

Certain power centers also offer a lithium mode, like the Progressive Dynamics RV Power Control Center with AC/DC Panel and Converter/Smart Charger # PD4560K18LS8, which has a lithium and a lead acid mode.

Yes, you'll only need to replace your current Progressive Dynamics Inteli-Power RV Converter and Smart Battery Charger # PD9260C with the Progressive Dynamics Inteli-Power RV Converter and Battery Charger # PD9160ALV to be Lithium compatible. Since you're only replacing the converter this will be a quick and easy swap, and you'll be able to charge your new LiFePO4 batteries (while hooked up to shore power).
